The Favorite Aunt is a parenting blog for non-parents. Aunts, specifically, although uncles are welcome. There are over a thousand results for “parenting” on Amazon.com, but only 48 for “aunt”. And those include “Aunt Jemima” and “Aunt Bee’s Mayberry Cookbook.” Not one of them is what I’ve been looking for: a guide for dealing with nieces and nephews. Aunt hacks, if you will.
I am the aunt of three wonderful kids: Violet (9) , Dash (7) and Jack-Jack (3). Those aren’t their real names–but they were dressed as The Incredibles one Halloween!
I am also the “unofficial” aunt to three other lovely girls, daughters of good friends of mine, on whom I’ve doted since babyhood. They are Emily (18), Anne (15) and Charlotte (11). Those aren’t their real names either, but they do love reading the Bronte sisters. Emily and Anne are sisters, Charlotte is an only child.
When I’m not babysitting or doing sleepovers, I’m the marketing director for a small Macintosh software developer. When I have time, I like to devote it to digital filmmaking and have been known to teach the occasional class in video editing and web design.
